Retired, or about to, and thinking of doing voluntary work?
If you have, or are about to, retire from full time employment volunteering can be a good way of keeping yourself occupied. Although all volunteer involving organisations should be welcoming to those who have retired there are some that are particularly targeted towards, or relevant to, older people.
You may be interested in committing to volunteering regularly. Lots of organisations depend on volunteers to help with tasks so that their beneficiaries don't miss out on vital things, such as food and communication with people in the outside world. Examples of these organisations are:
- Meals on wheels - the details of the contact in your local area can be obtained from your local Council.
- National Talking Newspapers- this organisation provides national newspapers and magazines on audio tape, computer disk, e-mail, internet download and CD-ROM for visually impaired and disabled people who find reading a strain.
