Defence volunteering

While the Territorial Army figures prominently in defence-related volunteering, it is not the only game in town. Last year the government announced a new national defence strategy which contained the idea of forming a network of civilian volunteer groups trained to help the emergency services in times of crisis, and police forces across the country lean heavily on volunteers to help them serve their communities.
